Cohort 5 Classes are Happening!

The third week of training class for Cohort 5 is in progress! Eight interns have heard Tom Wood's biogeography presentation (new and improved), Mary Lou's introduction and DEI presentation, and Paul Hirt's cultural history talk. Each presentation has been followed by a hands-on activity, some of which have been pretty challenging and fun to do. Karen McGregor had us stumped this week!

Chris Hilliard and Whitney Schack took on the first field lab, which was a Waldkinder activity after touring the grounds of Brown Canyon Ranch. We quickly discovered that our map skills are lacking! Chris, Deb Claus-Walker, and Louise Wilkinson assisted with the Coronado National Memorial field lab. Darien gave his talk on the history of the Coronado Expedition and Luke Anders gave a wonderful biogeology and biogeography interpretation of the Sky Islands, the San Pedro and San Raphael valleys. Chris wrapped up the morning with a sense of place discussion using the 3-D topographic map of Coronado National Memorial.

Our interns are psyched for the Copper Queen Mine tour this Saturday! We will also have an opportunity to visit the Bisbee Mining Museum.

Previous cohort members are encouraged to join us for the Wednesday classes from 5:30 - 8:30 pm at the U.S. Forest Service Station on Avenida Saracina in Hereford. There are some new speakers and new lectures and you may pick up a new skill with the evening activities. I know I always learn or remember something I had forgotten.

Field labs are also open to chapter members; just be sure to consult the padlet for the schedule, meeting time, and directions.

Come out and meet our new interns and catch up with fellow members and friends!
