We have another great opportunity for some recruitment and visibility by attending the Pollinator Field Day on June 27th from 10-3 at Kartchner Caverns! I am happy to be there to share our awesome group and can look around for some pollinator related activities to share day of for the kiddos. If anyone else is interested in attending and tabling with me, just let me know! I'm sure Hailey can give even more information to those at the Bat Walk next weekend.

FIREFLY MAGIC: Would you like to contribute to a nationwide
Join Tony Palmer, Biological Science Technician for the Tumacácori National Historical Park and an Ambassador for The Xerces Society (xerces.org) on Thursday 06/25/2026 at Empire Ranch. The Xerces Invertebrate Conservation Firefly Atlas has a special interest in Southern Arizona's firefly populations. If you would like to volunteer to survey for fireflies and broaden the understanding of these insects in Arizona join us on 06/25/2026 at Empire Ranch 5:30 -8:30. This activity will include a 1 hour training and then collecting data on fireflies at a natural spring located at the ranch. In this Advanced Skills Training you will learn how to survey fireflies and submit your findings to the Xerces Firefly Atlas database. The Xerces Society is an approved service listing for AZMN. For more information and carpooling from Vail please contact Chris Robie at christinerobie8@gmail.com.
Vince Weber is looking for Master Naturalist volunteers to help with monitoring agaves in designated sites at the fort. The protocol is pretty easy and is based on the Nature's Notebook Citizen Science protocol. Why is surveying agaves so important? It is because lesser long-nosed bats depend on them for their nectar.
Vince will send more information and will train anyone interested in participating in this project. The surveys may be done on weekdays or weekends. Please let Vince or me know if you would like more details. Contact vlwbirds@gmail.com or louwilk8@gmail.com.
