Volunteer Opportunity: Firefly Surveys at Empire Ranch (Las Cienegas National Conservation Area)

FIREFLY MAGIC: Would you like to contribute to a nationwide

community science project while watching fireflies dance through the desert?

Join Tony Palmer, Biological Science Technician for the Tumacácori National Historical Park and an Ambassador for The Xerces Society (xerces.org) on Thursday 06/25/2026 at Empire Ranch. The Xerces Invertebrate Conservation Firefly Atlas has a special interest in Southern Arizona's firefly populations.  If you would like to volunteer to survey for fireflies and broaden the understanding of these insects in Arizona join us on 06/25/2026 at Empire Ranch 5:30 -8:30. This activity will include a 1 hour training and then collecting data on fireflies at a natural spring located at the ranch. In this Advanced Skills Training you will learn how to survey fireflies and submit your findings to the Xerces Firefly Atlas database. The Xerces Society is an approved service listing for AZMN.  For more information and carpooling from Vail please contact Chris Robie at christinerobie8@gmail.com
